Why get a Scorecard assessment?
The Victorian Residential Efficiency Scorecard:
- is a new tool to rate the energy efficiency of homes
- tells you where the energy is being used in your home
- makes recommendations to reduce your energy use
- rates how well your home will perform on very hot days and suggests how to improve performance
- is delivered by knowledgeable, accredited assessors who can give you tailored advice.
- If you have high energy bills caused by your home’s construction or fixed appliances, Scorecard will show you where you can make savings.
- If you are planning a renovation, Scorecard can help you renovate to increase your home’s energy efficiency.
- If you are selling or renting an energy-efficient home, Scorecard clearly explains your home’s features and benefits to buyers and tenants.
- If you are buying or renting a home, a Scorecard assessment will give you an idea of your future energy costs
Our Victorian Energy Efficiency Scorecard assessment program can quickly deliver a high return on investment if you are looking to:

A Scorecard assessment looks at your home’s
Building shell:
- wall, floor and ceiling materials
- insulation
- windows and eaves
- gaps and cracks
Fixed features:
- heating and cooling systems
- hot water systems
- lighting
- curtains and external blinds
- solar panels
- pools and outdoor spas
Non-fixed appliances like fridges and washing machines are not included.

When an assessor comes to your home, they will:
1.explain the steps and the program
2.inspect the fixed appliances of the home and the insulation if accessible
3.assess the hot water system, eaves, external blinds and building construction outside the home
An accredited assessor will:
Inspect each room, collecting details of the dimensions, construction and features, including measuring the flow rate in the showers.
Our Scorecard assessors are highly skilled and are accredited by the Victorian Government.
- Our assessor rates the energy efficiency of your home's construction (including insulation, draughts, windows, shading, zoning), fixed appliances (heating, cooling & hot water), and other key features such as solar PV energy production.
- Our assessor is a Registered Building Practitioner (Domestic Builder- Unlimited), HIA GreenSmart Builder, Green Building Council of Australia Member and Professional and is independently accredited to use the government-supported Scorecard webtool.
- Our assessor is completely independent. Their suggestions are based purely on your home and what they think the most effective and efficient options are for you.
Once the on-site assessment is complete, the assessor will:
1.show you a preview certificate
2.talk to you about the results, including tailored recommendations and possible upgrades.
The assessor will complete the assessment offsite and email you a final certificate.
The assessment should take 1.5-2 hours to complete.
An accredited assessor will:
Take photographs of all relevant household energy features for quality assurance purposes.
After the assessment has been completed, the certificate is emailed to the householder.
The assessment should take 1.5-2 hours to complete.
All assessors go through a rigorous process for accreditation:
- Assessors must pass three quality control stages to become accredited.
- Every application is reviewed by the Scorecard Quality Advisory Panel.
- All assessors will be audited.
- Any conflict of interest must be declared at the start of the assessment.
Scorecard is a Victorian Government program. The Victorian Government:
- designed the Scorecard tool, and upgrades it regularly
- ensures Scorecard’s quality with accreditation, training, ongoing auditing, consumer surveys
- makes sure your personal data, including photos of your house and information about you, is securely stored
- provides a Scorecard website with information about improving your home’s energy efficiency.
